If you want more lights move back to town. Down lighting please. The folk who don't want more lights should try walking on the paths at night, it is very frightening. Why is it frightening ? No lights down further end of Bridleway please. No more lights along Coton Road. To much light at night from Waitrose. If we must have lights please make sure they are well shielded, natural colours and visually in keeping. Install lighting that does not spill upwards, the Cambridge Astronomy Association know the preferred types. (not sodium lamps) Although there is a light it is not bright enough in the parking area down the path in Nutters Close. I prefer no extra lights. I agree, it is fine here. No more lights it is already difficult to see the stars. No more lights, Newnham Rugby Ground provides enough for everybody. Light between Phone Box and Bridleway. No lights, nice to be able to see the stars at night from somewhere nearby. It would make Grantchester to Trumpington safer with more lighting. Street outside Old Vicarage should be a down light and permanently on, at present it is on intermittently. Coloured spots on map to indicate positions of suggested new lights. - 25 Boundaries Written on Stickers. Bridleway hedge (north side) needs a lot of attention, new planting and layering. Restore hedges and trees. The stretch illustrated above is fine as it is (photograph of fence and meadows) Reinstate natural hedgerows across 'prairie' fields between Grantchester, Barton and Haslingfield. Creating wildlife corridors, windshields and beauty. Hedgerow for Bridleway to Barton would be lovely. No place for fences. Headings. No.of Ticks. Why more hedgerows? Better for birds and small mammals 24 Diversity of flora. 26 More berries, fruits and nuts. 19 Act as wind breaks 19 Help prevent dust storms. 14 Help prevent erosion. 15 Other comments They add beauty and life; hedgerows bring back the bird song. Provide winter shelter for wildlife and food. The cut shape of hedgerows can help protect wildlife. Re-instate what was there before the motorway cut us off from the countryside - better walks and more beauty My idea would be to have hedges planted along. The end of Bridleway to the motorway bridge over to Barton. Around estate boundary. To some extent this is already a policy agreed with Anthony Pemberton. Coton Road leading into village. I agree. Around lanes leading to sign posts in fields. Between Manor field and the estate alongside the footpath there, Coloured spots in favour of re-planting - 28 Placement of Dog Bins Written on sticker More dog fouling notices and waste bins needed. We need dog bins. Coloured spots positioned on the map - 25 Speed No speed bumps; yes flashing 30mph. Agree. Speed bumps NO; rumble strips YES. One way system for about 3 metres usually works [sketch of one carriageway blocked at a point, followed by other carriageway, causing traffic to weave round in turns] 20 mph speed limit. 20 mph speed limit down Coton Road - Both Ways - possible use of cameras? 20 mph speed limit and flashing warning. No ornamental gates!! Too suburban. Speed: Rumble strips YES, speed bumps NO; Pedestrians: pavements sufficiently clear for wheelchairs Ornamental gates constricting the road at Coton Road village boundary YES Have a section of road where one way only at a time, as in Haddenham side of Cottenham [sketch of staggered blockage with "Stop" or "Give Way" each side, at 30 sign]. Speed bumps (as on Grange Road) could bring the area back to some sanity, through the village! PLEASE: no speed bumps or rumble strips in village. Measures to highlight existing 30mph speed limit and minimise dangerous parking are preferable. Traffic calming also needed on High Street. Traffic goes far too fast through village and visibility for pedestrians is poor as road is so windy. People speed as they leave the village on Coton Road. Speed bumps might work both ways. Flashing signs at edge of village No speed bumps; no rumble strip but speed bumps must be negotiable by cyclists. If speed bumps will slow the speeding cars down, we need speed bumps. [at Coton Road 30 sign] narrow the road. [at "Coton road speed controls would make the area _more_pleasant_, especially for children" -- do _you_ agree?] YES Flashing lights and signs do _NOT_ work. [at "Raised crossings on Coton Road and High Street" suggestion] YES PLEASE -- near the phone box. Yes to flashing speed limit reminders. Yes, agree. [Tick] No speed bumps! Flashing signs are good though. Yes, 30 mph flashing light please. This is very effective in Harston. The "rat run" use of the route from J12 M11 to Trumpington will only increase over time as numbers of cars and houses in the area increases. I'd say: (1) stop heavy vehicles because of the damage they cause to village houses through vibration, etc. (2) (if possible) limit traffic to access only during peak periods. (3) Impose a 20 mph speed restriction through the village. I think there is a distinction between agreeing what is the best set of measures to impose and deciding whether / how to enforce them. The latter can be done by looking at other schemes and deciding based on effectiveness / cost, e.g. ... speed bumps ... flashing signs ... tidal flows. I am a local resident -- NO speed bumps. Flashing lights: YES. Yes to flashing lights as and graduated markings [3.2.1 countdown?]. I agree. No to speed humps as noisy to residents as damage electric equipment in ambulances (P.S. I drive this route daily). Rat running [Rat running:] Lets stop it! Make it very clear if we have 20 mph in the village we may need a camera some where which may be even better. 20 mph please. Narrow road - either carriageway - or bring fence very close to road, at entry to village. Current 7.5 tonne limit reduced to 3 tonnes. Current 7.5 tonne limit needs to be better signed (in both directions) and enforced. Ban the ginormous lorries - especially the endless BEER ones! ... except for AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES. ... some needed though, for their businesses. Signs a waste of time and money. Ramps as in Grange Road only answer. [Rising bollards for peak closure] No! Reinforce speed restrictions instead! Too urban! Do _not_ close. Far too extreme a measure. Ban large vehicles from _all_ through routes via M11. Close village a la Worts' Causeway 7.30 - 9.30. ... Very good idea!! We are virtual prisoners between 7.30-8.30 Monday-Friday. Coton Road should be closed in the mornings. No humps. No closing Coton Road as someone suggested. Rising bollards - great but too expensive? The raised brick ramps in Chesterton (near Q.E. bridge) are brilliant - Easy and comfortable at 30 mph and unobtrusive. Safe pedestrian crossing very necessary in High Street (? near Village Hall) Road obstruction across carriageway is an alternative [to rising bollards / no motor vehicles restriction]. [obstruction across carriageway] Yes please - e.g. going down to one carriageway. Make the road between Bidwells / Waitrose one way so that there is no access from Trumpington. This would cut down rat running and unsociable behaviour and crime caused by the boy racers and junkies off the Trumpington estate. Map board Traffic calming badly needed on Coton Road Much needed traffic calming on Coton Road Direct [traffic seeking space for] parking to Byron's Pool car park in the summer? Not speed bumps or ramps. Very bad for emergency service vehicles. Slow down reminders in the village near Bridle Way. 30 mph warnings easier before limit; and more road markings. I use the road every day. Parking. The most obvious problem is the Orchard in summer and the Garage all year round. Double yellow lines and clamping as a first step. The Broadway single file helps to reduce traffic speeds usefully. Zebra crossing on High Street is very much needed and would slow on-coming cars as well as safety for all. Private Parking for residents only who haven't got a garage or any other space to park except near their house on the side of the road. Close the garage. Stop all parking of cars for sale. Flashing lights 30mph and rumble bars just out side existing 30 sign. ... Yes More parking in tea garden spring lane end for 60 cars. Rural village sign. Scales Barn. Foot-cycle path Newnham - Grantchester most important. [off-road public car park location] Manor Farm stack yard or just to the left of the lodge meadow. Parking at 14 [Manor Farm paddock] best. Parking at 14 [Manor Farm paddock] best. Parking at 12 [South of road between bridges] good idea - keep visitors cars to the edge of village and the people will WALK into the village. The roads in the village should be for residents. Church Lane / Maris lane junction [Trumpington] not safe for cyclists heading towards Grantchester. Trumpington road junction not safe for cyclists. Needs e.g. pelican crossing at Church Lane Trumpington. ? Would it be possible to be able to make more use of the area beyond the manor house - Payment? [indicated in grounds of Manor Farm - up drive and on right beyond Lodge] What about parking in the Manor Farm parking area. Would the Pembertons ever agree. Have we considered parking bays along the west side of Mill Way near the orchard? Footbridge over mill stream [continuing footpath along main river into field next to road between the road bridges] and car parking [in field North of Grantchester road between bridges. Parking Control This will only push the parking into the village! Please get Red Lion pub to remove the (redundant) traffic barrier and notices which are very intrusive and out of keeping. Also: PLEASE REPAINT SO NOT ORANGE!!! [Mill Way yellow lines] These yellow lines will be hideous. Has been like it since the '50s/'60s. Locals can use other routes and avoid the congestion, not add to it. ... [yellow lines] Not necessary. Village Hall users need to be able to park nearby. Many have a lot of equipment to carry. Can pubs be more helpful here? [against picture of yellow lines] Hideous. Safe on-road parking Control on-street parking by orchard -- makes road dangerous. Double white lines in middle of road. PLEASE restrict garage overflow. Parking out of order on corner of Wrights Row / Coton Road. [Parking on Broadway] Most dangerous part of my children's ride to school (in Cambridge) on their cycles (especially at school run time) -- and they can no longer use pavement because of wheelie binds. ... ? traffic calming, speed limit of 20 mph, child cycling signs, etc. etc. Too much parking on the Broadway is dangerous! ... and unsightly! [Lay-by on Broadway in bank] No! Horrible idea. ... please leave Broadway alone!! ... Agree. Would spoil attractive approach to village. [Corner at top of orchard] Double white lines in middle of road. Traffic calming measures along high street. Garage uses the road as an extension to their premises -- this must be illegal and should be stopped ... Hear hear (x2) Coton Road has enough problems with parking at weekend now. Leave Coton Road alone. ... I agree. More car parking is required ... but NOT Coton Road. We are unable to get out of our properties now. GP Motors are responsible for a good deal of congestion at the centre of the village. The now scheme of alternate double-yellow line stretches still will leave the road through Grantchester _unsafe_ -- in some parts two-way traffic will still not flow. The blind bends make it worse still. The only solution is to have double-yellow lines throughout and get, by one means or another, car parks. Off-road Car Park Keep "meadows" clear of parking! Park at 10 / 11 [referring to map; fields either side of first stretch of Cantelupe Farm road]. Put parking in back of meadow by old roman road. The Parish Council have reversed their recent decision about double yellow lines. Do the members really _prefer_ the sight of bumper to bumper parking throughout the village every weekend (except in winter)? Yes -- an off-road car park somewhere! Yes -- a village car park for the Orchard overflow would help. [Car parking in fields at sides of Cantelupe Farm road] Yes, this is a good idea. The traffic light at the Trumpington Road exit from Grantchester is a major cause of traffic congestion in the mornings. It is set open for ten seconds for traffic from Grantchester, only, in each cycle. This discriminates against our traffic. ... I agree. How about purchase of a field for permanent parking for both residents and visitors? No lay-bys wanted. They make pedestrians have to walk in the road and cause obstruction in a narrow road (one lane!). On the edge, but where?! Best to reduce numbers of cars coming into the centre. If the garage were moved perhaps a cave/shop/parking/trees could be there instead? ["What about parking near to the village hall? The garage site: a new business with relevance to the village and a public car park behind?"] Good idea. Parking is a major summer eyesore and hazard. Approach Pembertons again for Manor Farm parking. [Parking in paddock behind wall at entrance to Manor Farm drive] Not good idea for parking. Too dangerous on the corner. ...
